2012 looks to be a busy year! I will be opening a studio, short term, in the Town of Floyd at the Jacksonville Center for the Arts....I am hoping to have it open for June, July, and August. I will continue to welcome patrons into my larger, home studio on Poor Farm Rd., but the additional location will give more visibility to my work, capturing visitors to the town.
I will be participating in the 2nd Annual Floyd Artisan Trail Tour, to take place June 22-25. I will be in the "town" studio on Friday, the 22nd, and in my home studio the remainder of the Open House weekend. Times to be announced later. The week leading up to the Trail Tour, I will take time off for a painting week at Nimrod Hall in Bath Co, VA, so my studio will be full of "fresh off the easel" pieces.
The Fall will bring two shows to my calendar.....Art on the Lawn on September 9th, in Pearisburg, VA (in Giles Co), and Art on the Parkway on Oct 13-14, at Mountain Meadows Farms in Meadows of Dan, VA.
I will be updating my blog with each of my painting outings, so be sure to check for updates. I can also be found on Facebook under "Paintings by Joli Ayn Wood." My Facebook page will have the most "up to the minute" information on new works and shows, so be sure to head out there and "like" my page!
Thanks to everyone for all their support during my recent show! I appreciate the help and guidance of my friends, family, and my art community of Floyd!

Jacksonville Center for the Arts Show in Floyd! Beginning February 4th!
I am very excited about my upcoming show at the Jacksonville Center for the Arts in Floyd!
My work will be on display in the Breezeway Gallery during the months of February and March, 2012. Opening reception will be February 4th, a Saturday, from 2-4pm at the Center. (220 Parkway Lane South, Floyd, VA 24091 - call 540-745-2784 for information)
This show will be a departure for me. It is all about inspiration....what inspires the artist. It will paintings, drawings, and photography, each displaying areas and people who have brought that spark of inspiration to me. There will be some of the "usual suspects".....North Shore, MA locals such as Good Harbor Beach, Niles Pond, Crane Beach, Brace Cove....the mountains of Southwestern VA, the New River, and new places, such as the villages of Martha's Vineyard.
I will be posting new works here, beginning on the show start date, all of which are "for sale," and most under $200 (many under $150).
This is my first, large showing in Southwestern Virginia in a few years. I hope you will join me!

Prep for Art on the Lawn - THIS WEEKEND!
Art on the Lawn is this weekend! Saturday, September 24, 2011, 10-4pm on the lawn of the Giles Co. Courthouse, Pearisburg! Come out to see my newest, and very different works. Most everything will be smaller in scale, and this summer I've been studying the use of the palette knife, trying out skills gathered during my stay at Nimrod Hall. All works are framed and all under $150.

My only large, new piece for the show is of the sand dunes at beautiful Crane Beach, located in Ipswich, MA. I took inspiration from the undulating sandy dunes, and unique plant life growing on this expansive beach on the North Shore. I tried to keep things loose, incorporating new skills. It is framed in a simple, white wash driftwood frame with a linen liner.
If you cannot make it out to Giles, I would be happy to ship anywhere.
Stay tuned for more specifics from a recent trip to Gloucester and Essex, MA, where I completed small oil sketches of Brace Cove, Good Harbor Beach, Bass Rocks, and Halibut Point State park!

Ready for Richmond Show!

I am finally ready for a special showing of my work in Richmond! My newest work, along with some of my very first paintings, will be on display at the Lora Robins Gallery from Nature at the University of Richmond this coming weekend. Installation will take place Thursday, with the gallery open from 1-5 Friday and Saturday, June 13-14. I will speak about my work and creative process in an art talk at 2:30pm on Saturday, June 14th. The talk will take place in the gallery.
Several new pieces will be on display for sale. See some images here. My new pieces, all oil on canvas, feature the rolling hills of Floyd, VA, Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA, as well as a frosty, frozen Niles Pond in East Gloucester, MA.
Look forward to see you all out in Richmond!
